Life is a simple, quiet work that seeks to express my feelings at this point in my life – capturing the delicate balance of human existence paired with the fragility of human life. I found myself poised between my daughter planning for her first child, and my father who is in the final days of his life.

Bringing a symbolic and sculptural approach to the subject facilitated creation of a composition incorporating a dichotomy of strength and fragility indicative of this cycle of life, further enhanced with studio lighting suggesting the beginning or the end of the day. Photographing the original compact scene enabled an illusionary framed tension between the textural forms, and presenting the work scaled up into an A2 format further accentuates these characteristics.

Taking inspiration from the minimal, constructed images created by Christine Cornish the work has a theatrical but serene element aimed at engaging the viewer and giving them pause to reflect on their own life journey.
